MARICOPA COUNTY2+ weeks agoAgencyIf you receive a call asking you to pay fines for missing jury duty – you’re getting scammed. In the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County, fines associated with missing jury duty can only be ordered by a judge in court – not over the phone. Read more: https://superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/posts/press-releases/2024/fraudsters-scam-civic-minded-residents/ If targeted by a jury scam, write down the phone number of the caller and then call police. Do not give the caller any personal information or agree to provide any payment. Scam perpetrators will do all they can to insist you stay on the phone with them the entire time. This is a red flag. When in doubt, a person may verify their jury service status by calling the jury office at 602-506-5879. Visit https://superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/jury287Like76

PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENTa week agoAgencyWARNING: The attached video may contain strong language as well as graphic images which may be disturbing to some people. Viewer discretion is advised. The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on June 2, 2024. This incident began in the area of 13th St. and Palm Ln. when Phoenix police officers responded to a call of a subject with a gun in the area. The 911 caller told the operator a man was armed with a gun and trying to steal her boyfriend’s motorcycle. When officers arrived, they drove into an alley and saw a man matching the description. The man was sitting on a motorcycle with a gun in his hand. As the officers were getting out of their patrol car, the man raised and pointed the gun towards officers. Both officers responded by firing their guns at the suspect. Evidence found at the scene indicated the man did fire his gun. After the shooting, the suspect dropped the gun and officers moved up to provide medical aid until the fire department arrived. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. https://youtu.be/S7eCR259vSY40Like31

GLENDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyTheft of Guns: According to a report by the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics an estimated average of 266,000 firearms are stolen each year. Researchers say that the stolen firearms, are moving directly from legal to illegal hands. In other words… owners who keep firearms for self-protection, but who are careless in the way they carry or store their firearms, are arming the very people they fear. Criminals are now breaking into vehicles for the specific purpose of finding firearms, not just to steal electronics. In Glendale, we have had incidents where people were practicing open carry of a firearm on their side when they were robbed for the gun …at gunpoint! This is just a reminder: Write down all the information about your firearms and keep the information stored safely in a couple different places. Know where your firearms are at ALL times and keep them in a SECURE place. It doesn’t help if you put them in a gun safe but don’t secure the lock. WHEN YOU WALK AWAY FROM YOUR VEHICLE, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FIREARM INSIDE…think about what would happen if you or someone else caught someone just after they broke in and now have your gun. PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyWARNING: The attached video may contain strong language as well as graphic images which may be disturbing to some people. Viewer discretion is advised. The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on May 16, 2024. This incident began in the area of 33rd Ave. and Northern Ave. when Phoenix Police officers responded to a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. This team tracked the suspect to an apartment complex in the area 25th Ave. and Cactus Rd. The suspect attempted to contact a resident of the complex. When he was unable to do so, the suspect began to walk to his vehicle in the parking lot. An officer with the Special Assignments Unit was in the area in his unmarked police vehicle. The suspect pulled two handguns and began to fire in the direction of the officer, striking the vehicle multiple times. The officer got out and returned fire. The suspect began to run away as he continued to shoot in the officer’s direction. The officer chased after him while continuing to return fire at the suspect. The suspect ran toward a breezeway of the apartment building and fell to the ground where he was detained. Following the shooting, officers provided medical aid to the suspect. He was taken to the hospital where he pronounced deceased. https://youtu.be/CtODEpOaigM111Like58
