Is Halloween Horror Nights at Universal worth it? ›

Overall, the experience of Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights is worth it if you are truly interested in horror and meeting like-minded people. The lines will be long, yes. The food will be overpriced, of course.

Q: Does my daytime park admission allow me to stay for HHN? A. No, Halloween Horror Nights is a seperately ticketed event. However, we are offering a "Day/Night Combo" ticket that includes daytime admission to Universal Studios Hollywood PLUS same-day evening admission to the Halloween Horror Nights event.

Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights are usually the least expensive and least crowded, and Saturdays tend to be the priciest (especially Halloween weekend) and most crowded, followed by Fridays.

As such, HHN is legit scary. Inside all of the haunted houses, real people will jump at you, sneak up behind you and shadow you as you try to get from Point A to Point B. There will be scary sounds, special effects, wailing, screaming and general aural discomfort.

Can you be touched at Halloween Horror Nights? Universal's scareactors may jump out at you or get up close, but rest assured they can't touch you and vice versa. In fact, intentionally touching a scareactor can get you kicked out of the park.

Weekends are the busiest days to visit, specifically Saturday nights. The event is typically more crowded at the start and end of the season as people try to visit as soon as possible or for one last trip of the year.

Get in line for the early Access Mazes before 5 p.m. This ticket is the only HHN ticket that includes Super Nintendo World during the event from 7 to 10 p.m. A virtual line could be in use. Even if you do not have Early Entry or a 2 p.m. ticket, arrive an hour before the event begins. Lines to enter can be long.

Saturdays are the busiest nights, with Friday nights not too far behind them. The very best nights to attend as far as crowds go are Wednesdays. It is nearly impossible to see everything in one night without upgrading your experience (which we'll get into later).

Go with a tour or express. You can tour the houses with the lights on during the day and it can be a good way to familiarize yourself with them before going at night when they are at their spookiest. The Unmasking the Horrors tour can be purchased separately.

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 was single handedly one of the most fun years we've experienced in a while. Yes, previous years were phenomenal, but this year had some extra added Halloween magic on its side.
