If so, the Background Check Unit (BCU) invites you to consider a customer-facing career, leading our unit’s efforts state-wide, organized under the Division of Management Services. We are recruiting for a highly motivated, self-driven, autonomous and visionary leader to be our Background Check Unit Program Manager. The Program Manager position is essential providing leadership for a major, statewide program in support of the Department’s mission, vision and values. The Background Check Unit (BCU) conducts background checks and clearances, state-wide, making fitness determinations based on established criteria on persons for healthcare providers, adoptive and foster parents, daycare providers, first responders, and court appointed guardians that care for children and vulnerable adults. This dynamic position will oversee daily operations and provide administrative oversight for the Background Check Unit (BCU) and will be a key contributor to our extended leadership DMS team. This is a full-time, office-based position, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with holiday’s off. This role does not allow for the opportunity to telecommute, as the unit is customer-facing and an onsite role presence is required.

In general, applicants for this position must be very flexible and able and willing to travel at the Department’s expense to any part of the state for BCU operational needs, including audits, and attending conferences. Sometimes travel will be needed with very short notice. In the event that an overnight stay is required, the Program Manager will receive as much notice as possible to make the pertinent preparations. Travel costs will be covered by the Department including lodging, transportation and per diem.

Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Oversee the daily operations for the Background Check Unit (BCU).
  • Provide administrative oversight for BCU.
  • Provide leadership and direction related to legislation and IDAPA rules.
  • Establish and maintain BCU goals, operational metrics, policies and procedures.
  • Plan, organize, and direct work assignments and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local standards.
  • Manage budget for BCU. Act as a liaison with elected, appointed, and federal/state public officials.
  • Ensure quality control for BCU.
  • Manage and respond to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for technical assistance.
  • Be an active part of the DMS extended leadership team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum and specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum and specialty qualifications for this position.   • Demonstrated competency in management and demonstrated leadership skills. Typically gained by at least one-year experience managing a major Program and providing leadership of professional staff. Candidates may also qualify through completing upper-division college-level management coursework along with experience in a significant Leadership role.
