...Best of luck guys.

Thanks. Yup, hope Nick gets that buffed out quick too. The silver car is in Florida with my son, so his top down season is just beginning. Thanks for the good word, it helps.

^^That just sucks for both of you guys. I hate seeing Miatas get busted up, and hope that both cars get fixed as good as new, quickly, so you can enjoy the fall weather before the real chill hits. Best of luck guys.

Thanks! Hope I get her back on the road soon and that the damage is minimal

I forgot to post pictures of the stock bump stops.

First, left side rear, only one ring left. Second, right side rear, only dust is left. Dust. That's it.Yowsa!

That's why it's so important to inspect/change the bump-stops on these babies! (ESPECIALLY the rears)

Before the FM/Koni suspension upgrade, I used to cringe when flying over railroad tracks - I believe my old bumps were a huge part of the problem.

Did this easy mod two months ago and could not be happier:
So, I was super excited to wire my little LEDs into the pukas left behind with the visor blanks, until the package of 6 LEDs arrived via ebay with only 1 of the 6 just kind-of lighting up dimly while attached to a 9-V battery...
Enter late night Amazon trolling! Energizer Kid's headlights are exactly the right size for the blanks, have only 2 modes: on and off (as opposed the adult's multi-flashing issues)- they take a slim, long lasting, included battery and operate independently of doors, ignition and each other. I simply cut off the elastic, peeled off the foam back (because nothing will stick to it), taped the light and button, spray-painted it w satin black for plastic and attached it with a few layers of good, exterior 3m mounting tape.
PS.. remove the useless tiny screw from the back. Without it, the unit still holds together perfectly well, but battery replacement without frustration will be super simple in the future.
The result:
big, bright light that is easy to operate and is independent of the vehicle's operational status.
PPs..If my NB was red, I may have not even painted it...it also comes in tinkerbell and boring grey if that's your pleasure. For myself, I liked the "tire" design of the Lightning McQueen button the best. check out the photos below:

Seahorse: Very creative and they look good. No visors though... do you wear a hat all the time in the car? I don't like the visors that much, useless with the top down, but with the top up at sunset, they are useful if I'm not wearing a hat.

Can't go on without explaining that license.

Yes, tell us right meow, please!

Haha ok, well it looks like a little mouse, being ti grey and all. One of my family members said it looks like a mouse, so they called it cat food and it stuck.

So I ordered the sunstorm revlimter gauge faces and some super bright led bulbs. I just don't like my gauge faces anymore. I have been eyeing them for a few years now. Along with a moroso air/oil separator.

I had a fun day of tinkering. First I rebuilt the shifter. The boots were completely shot. Wow, what a diference. I expected smoother shifting, but it's SO much quieter in the cabin now. Thsi is really worth the time to do.

Then I cleaned and lubed the window rails. They operate much smoother and faster now, with no squealing.

Finally, I installed a Stebel Nautilus air horn in place of the anemic OEM unit. The realya that came with it is bad, so I just direct wired it temporarily. It's much louder than stock, even going throught the thin EOM wiring. I'll get a new relay tomorrow and finish the install right.

Oh, and last weekend I finished installing mynew Robbins soft top (don't even get me started on how DISsatisfied I am with Robbins.) I also installed a programmable strobe unit on the 3rd brake light. I like it, but i think it will be even better with the LED brake light I have on the way.

I installed this third brake light strobe flasher:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/strobe-controllers/brake-light-strobe-module/195/
to go with this LED replacement bulb:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1156-led-bulb-single-intensity-1-x-3-watt-high-power-led-w-reflector-lens/921/2260/
But it didn't go as planned. After installing the flasher module, the LED did not light up at all. I put the original bulb back in the socket and it flashed -- not the same pattern it was supposed to (4-short, 4-long, 1-sustained) but it did flash (4-long, 1-sustained). I'm happy with that. I kept the flasher and returned the bulb for a refund.

Did you know the LED bulbs are polarized, like a battery? They will only work in one direction when you plug them in.

Seashed

26th October 2014, 11:44

^^Yes. When I experimented with an LED 3rd brake light bulb, I needed to trim the plug itself slightly to allow me to reverse it for the bulb to light up.

I ended up putting an OEM style bulb back in later, MUCH brighter than the LED was, for whatever reason, now I just don't bother with the LED swap/mod deal at all. I found no upside, and was money wasted in my case.

BTW, it was a "name brand" cluster LED from one of the top and most often recommended LED suppliers mentioned here often, so I didn't buy a POS and expect too much.

Pulled the drive shaft..front U-joint was toast..waiting on the new shaft.

I had ordered the 4 bushings for the floppy automatic shifter a month ago, so I disconnected the shifter lever from under the car, then removed the center console and shifter assembly. The two large plastic bushings on the shifter shaft were completely gone...replaced them. Then replaced the two smaller plastic bushings(they were also completely gone) on the linkage under the car. I also sprayed contact cleaner on the micro switch that tells the ignition it is in "park" so you can remove the key. I also bent back the little metal arm just a bit since it was not engaging the switch all the time. If you try this be careful, that small arm is merely crimped onto the lower part of the switch...easy to break off.
Man what a difference...the shifter feels perfect now, and getting the key out is easy.

I noticed the soft top latches were not staying closed very well. Over the years the cam handle must have had a stop on it that was captured by the release button...mine were worn smooth. I removed both latches and drilled a hole where a catch should be, screwed a small stainless steel screw into the hole then ground it down until the release button would catch it. Now the latches stay closed and won't flop open unless I hit the release button.

I wired up two 12v Hella Supertone (Spyder makes the same) car horns to my NB. Pretty easy and super loud! Its a pair of normal sounding horns but at 118db! Nice and loud. I didn't want air horns.

I'm going to mount two more under my rear bumper connected to a momentary switch I can press to blast douchebags behind me. That's going to kick ass. Or scare someone and make them crash into me... haha.

I had to open my plastic harness holder which was attached to the trunk lid to sort out the spaghetti inside and isolate the green and black wire to the third brake light.

From the flasher module, the two red wires to the one green wire (note the direction of the red wires printed on the module) and the one black to the one black.

The plastic harness holder was originally taped to nylon clips attached to the trunk lid. When finished, I replaced the tape with cable ties - much neater.

Oh, the plastic bulb holder for the third brake light was stiff and hard to turn. Before I replaced it, I smeared a thin film of dielectric grease on the edges of the plastic so it would turn easier. Never put the grease on the metal contacts. Dielectric means "insulating", just use the stuff for a lube and seal.

I changed my oil and filter without the use of a jack, jack stands or oil filter wrench.

I slid a very shallow oil pan under the car, opened my Fumoto Quick Oil Change ball-valve drain with one finger and walked away until the oil had stopped draining. I closed the ball-valve just as easily and scooted the oil pan a few inches to the front of the car to catch the oil from the oil filter. Then I reached over the top of the engine with my 6" long, 1" wrench and loosened the K&N HP-1010 oil filter so I could remove it from the top of the engine. Then I replaced the filter and snugged it with the same wrench (I don't have enough hand grip to get a good seal). I replaced the oil and slid out the oil pan. Total time - not including going for a cup of coffee while draining the oil (yes, it takes a little longer because of the small drain opening) - was less than 15 minutes. No mess. No oil-change kits. No wheel removal. No jacks. I'm pleased.

How did you keep the oil that drains out of the filter when unscrewed/ removed from draining onto the engine cradle/ frame? This is the mess I hate and why I use ramps and a piece of cardboard bent in a V.

It does drain onto the plastic shield underneath the engine and then drips onto the catch pan - that's why I slid the catch pan a few inches forward after draining the oil from the engine. It doesn't hurt to put down a newspaper underneath the catch pan, just in case your aim is off.

I contacted the tech dept at SuperBrightLED's and they said the LED I used was polarized and suggested a different LED altogether:

Started doing rust repair on monday and tuesday on my back passenger fender in front of the wheel. Cutting and grinding it out then began filling it in with fiberglass. So far I've put a total of 9 hrs into the job. Now I gotta sand it down and make it all flat. I'm having trouble locating that chip guard paint that's on the bottom of our cars. Does anyone know where I can find some or recommend a product that matches the factory stuff mazda use? I found this clear coat chip guard paint. I was thinking about just buying the color paint for my nb (emerald mica), then use the chip guard clear over it.

If there's one thing I've learned during this job, body shops are serious when they said how long it'll take to do a job.

It's a bit dark now anyway, but I'm also not too proud of the plastic ends of the signals. The white symbols are wearing off quite a bit. I might rub them off completely to give it a cleaner look. It's not like I look to see which way to put my turn signal!

Weddsport Forged TC105N

Unsure of 15x8 - I believe 15x7 weighs about 11lbs.Thanks for the quick reply -

I didn't see 15x8, and they are a bit pricier than I expected.

If 949 don't get the job done with my pre-order by early next year, I might just go with these at 12.1 Lbs: Kosei 4R - Tirerack (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=K4R020LG&wheelMake=Kosei&wheelModel=K4R&wheelFinish=Light+Grey+Painted&showRear=no&autoMake=Mazda&autoModel=Miata+Sport+Pkg&autoYear=1999&autoModClar=&filterFinish=All&filterSize=15&filterBrand=All&filterSpecial=false&filterNew=All&filterWeight=All&sort=Weight)

Definitely not my first choice by far aesthetically, but relatively inexpensive along with the exact weight, form, fit, and functionality I'm looking for - and easily available from TR, incl easy RMA if needed.

Getting lightweight 15x8 et36 for my NB has been pretty frustrating; I like 16x8 Enkei PF01, but the tire selection is much more limited in 16, so 15 it seems it must be.

usshelena725

Yeah, they weren't cheap, but I really wanted something super light that nobody else had, and I hate the enkei rpf01, just doesn't do it for me. Some of kosei look great and are quite light, but I wanted to retain the 16 wheel, and kosei only does 15. Good for you, not so good for me.

I had 205/45-16 tires similar to yours on a Shinsen loaner for a weekend, and I do feel the 45 series tire on a 16" wheel feels better to me than a 50 series on a 15" wheel - 50 series strikes me as just a hair-too-much sidewall, and is a little sloppier in handling than a 45. I'm now running BFG Comp-2 (195/50-15), I like them a lot, and they are also available in your size; they're what I would've gotten if I went to 16" dia.

Next, I'm going to try 205/50 Bridgestone RE11A when I get some 8" rims, since my Comp-2s are pretty much toast.

Continuing progress, installed RSpeed hood struts, FM rear sway bar, Roadster Sport 3 muffler (love the burble at idle) tomorrow if it's not raining, FM front sway, Fumoto Valve, Moroso oil air separator, oil change, and want to see how it feels with new sway bars.

Those actually look pretty good.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the rubber band tire look, but don't really care for a huge 50 series sidewall either.

I only drive the Miata a day or two a week, and maybe 1 to 2 autocross events a year, which are just for fun, not competition, so the best handling isn't mandatory for me. Just didn't want to drag around boat anchors. Have so so tires now, will likely hop to the kuhmo rs3 when I replace them soon.

Today I fitted a bespoke alloy expansion tank that I had made by a specialist tig welding company. I polished it myself to match with the polished alloy 60's retro theme of my car. I also fitted chromed wiper arms too. These were the originals which I had chromed at a local plating company. I'm very pleased with the results

The tank as built by the tig welder and then the polished tank fitted to the car. He used my original as a pattern. It's a perfect fit. Took me a couple of hours to polish.

Ordered my steering wheel and boss kit. I cant wait to get rid of the last remaining baseball brown interior parts! YUCK!!!

Now the serious question.....To turbo or to exocet? That is the question. They both will probably end up costing the same in the end (for the turbo set up I want). Or DIY turbo?

I contacted the tech dept at SuperBrightLED's and they said the LED I used was polarized and suggested a different LED altogether:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1156-led-bulb-single-intensity-18-smd-led-tower/163/
I ordered it and I'll let you know if it works.

UPDATE:
The new LED bulb works perfectly with the flasher. I ordered red as suggested by SuperBrightLED's and the intensity is much greater and the flash pattern is now correct with four shorts, four longs and then stays on. This is a small price to pay for extra safety and I doubt that I will ever have to replace this LED.

Took off a stupid chrome badge on the trunk lid that reads "turbo". This one came from one of the POs. It is one thing to be eager to boast your FI gear you actually have (not that I would do that, but anyway), and quite another to do so when you lack thereof; this car came bone stock drivetrain-wise as far as I could tell. Wish I had done that sooner!

Looks so good! Sadly I'm done spending on my girl for the season. Maybe after winter!

Thanks!

I've got a chin spoiler from a wrecked car in the garage. It's pretty scraped up, and it's green, so I'll need to learn how to work with filler. I'll probably paint it with engine paint since that seems to hold up pretty well.

Otherwise I think I'm done spending for the year too. There's not much left to do! Since March I've done the timing belt, water pump, accessory belts, radiator, valve cover gasket, brakes, trans and diff fluids, engine oil a few times, motor mounts, alignment bolts, and probably some other stuff. I have a very understanding wife. :)

Those wheels looks great and I like them better than the stock ones on my 2004. But, they look smaller than my 16 inch wheels. Are yours 15s?

Yep, they're 15x8. They look smaller than they do on a lot of cars here on miata.net, too, because my car isn't lowered.

I'll have to post some pics of 3/4 angles, too, to show the offset. And the tire stretch. The car came with brand new all season Kumhos in the stock 195-50-15 size. When I replaced them with Dunlop Z2s for autocross use, I put the Kumhos in storage, and that's what I used here. An 8" wheel is pretty wide for a 195 tire.

maybe 300 each. ;)

Yes s2000 seats and the tan is so close to the miata tan you really can't notice. You sit approx the same height as stock and the seat with the wide sliders you end up sitting slightly to the left which is better for me because I don't rest my knee on the transmission tunnel. I looked at many different seats before deciding on these. The later s2000 seats do not have the headrest hole, and I can't speak for how they mount. There is a mild amount of metal fabrication of brackets required. Also the passenger and driver mounting is different on the miata.

This project was well worth it.

I'm sure he would be interested. However, he is in Merseyside, near Liverpool in England, (I'm English). His work is not cheap but he is damn good. He has a website you can contact him through here:

I participate regularly in various motorcycle/car forums and this thread is usually a fun one. It gives us a lot of ideas of what each of us does from one day to another on our bikes and cars and also gives us ideas of what to do to our own NB's...

Please post here if you drove it to work, took the dust cover off it & washed it, took the engine out, pumped up the tires, turned on the lights & looked at it... etc etc, you get the idea. Nothing is too trivial to post here... Anything goes except NSFW items...

So??

Fabricated a plastic air dam for the gap under the radiator that normally has a wimpy piece of foam in it.

The foam at the bottom radiator gap and the one at the top gap are supposed to make sure the air goes through the radiator instead of around it but I recently replaced the radiator and the foam I stuck in the bottom was not doing the job.

I cut a piece out of the old plastic engine pan I had removed some time ago, trimmed it to fit and the screwed it down with the 4 screws that hold the AC radiator on.

I did not think to get any pics. but it fits great and looks like it belongs there.

I am now thinking of making a similar part to replace the foam on the top.

Is this just for looks, or what? Also, I'm surprised they don't put a simple clear tube on one side so you can see the level.
How much does it weigh and how much does the OEM plastic one weigh? I'm sure it isn't that much different, but Mazda used a lot of light weight items like this and they all add up to weight saved.

doane2u,

In my case, the aluminum overflow tank was purely an aesthetic choice. My OEM tank was nasty as all heck, had a crack in it, I would have needed to replace it anyway. I had similar aluminum ones in other vehicles in the past, I liked them, so I spent the not-so-insignificant amount of money for the one that I linked.

I was not then, nor am I now, concerned about the weight difference between a plastic and an aluminum unit.
My use of the vehicle does not demand such weight concerns. If so, I'd lose 5 lbs., empty the trunk, and have lighter friends!

I would like to get on for looks, I think it would compliment my Mishimoto radiator, just like I am looking at redoing the valve cover to a red powder coated one to go with my K&N intake. I just installed a Moroso air/oil seperator in hopes of cutiing down the oil vapor that gunks up the EGR ports in the intake manifold that I cleaned out.

I also just installed a Roadster Sport 3 exhaust and for the weight savings perceived, I installed FM sway bars, net savings ~0lbs. I agree, it isn't a big weight difference. My point was that for economics and weight, Mazda chose to use light weight materials where ever possible and that all adds up in the long run.
In my case, I think the custom over flow looks good, but for $200+ I would spend it on something else, just my opinion.

That's why over the last three year I have broken things up into winter time projects, budget for the things that need to be done and figure in dressing as well. This year has been more dressing the way that I would like since major things like shocks, brakes, cooling system, a repaint, tires, ignition system, fuel pump and filter, have been done. Next year is going to be soft top, tires, and carpet at least right now.

Swapped out the summer tires and wheels and slapped,on the snow tires and wheels. Drove thru a white out Friday going to work. Not supposed to happen on Halloween in Chicagoland.

Now all I can say is bring it on!! Love the Miata in the snow! Yes, it's a daily driver with 140K on the clock, not a collector car but the best, most fun daily driver I've ever owned. Car makes me smile every time I drive it.

Added in Moddictions blue tinted mirrors. Did passenger side first and that one cracked right at the last bit.

Learning from that the drivers side went in much better and once my replacement mirror comes in I'll redo the passenger side one.

Did a couple of things today, one planned, one not so planned.

Not Planned - Went to move the Miata last night and found that I had no clutch. Quick trip to the neighborhood parts store for a replacement clutch slave cylinder fixed that. Looking through the records, this is the second one I have had to replace. First was about 7,000 miles ago in March of 2013. I realize that the slave cylinders are a weak point, but shouldn't they last longer than that?

Planned - Some previous owner did not believe in taking care of the wheels allowing the brake dust to etch the wheels. Sourced some plasti-dip with aluminum metalizer and 'dipped' the wheels as the kids say. Extremely happy with the results. Hope the finish lasts longer than the slave cylinder did.

I bought these: Morimoto XB (type S) LED Fog lights (http://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/morimoto-xb-led-fog-lights-type-s.html#.VFg5Z_nF-So) from The Retrofit Source.

They were pretty easy to install, although not quite a drop-in. I'll post a thread about them with some pics later.

twoslices,

That fill plug is actually a 9/16ths" square head on a 1/2" plumber's plug. You may have better success with a large open end wrench, or a 9/16ths" 8-point socket on a breaker bar. Some have said that a big top quality adjustable "Crescent" style wrench worked for them, so that is another option.

If you really bugger up the plug on the way out, you can get that 1/2" plumber's plug at most any hardware/home improvement store. I bought one at Home Depot for just a couple of dollars.

I eventually got mine with a plumber's wrench after a night hitting it with PB blaster several times. Next step was, with the car on jack stands, to use my hydraulic jack to push the wrench up thus using the entire weight of the car to torque it. Fortunately I didn't have to go that far.

I drove up to the top of the San Lucia range to look at a customers new house in progress up at the end of Long Ridge Trail and about a 30 minute drive from the coast. This is a gated community in one of the most magnificent coastal range areas. Fantastic, narrow, windy road and the Miata, of course, loved it, even though I couldn't open it up all the way as the area is heavily patrolled for speeders and there are also a lot of blind corners and deer. Still, it was an incredible drive up and back down with the top down on a beautiful sunny day and my ears are still popping tonight from the altitude changes.

'01, six speed, definitely! The '05 automatic is now "hers" and I'm not allowed to even look at it! She made me undip the front wing emblem and now she wants a chrome roll bar like mine. She's crazy about her car, never seen anything like it.

Interesting the difference in road feel between the two. The '01 feels much more agile and just has a lighter feel about it. I know the auto tranny adds weight, but how much on an NB?

If you did, how did you get out of the car and why would you trust some one who parks like that to pull straight out with our turning their wheel slightly and side scrapping your Miata, or worse? I parked like that after he was taking up two spots. My car already has extensive body damage so I'm not exactly worried about any new scratches. Just in case, I took photos of both cars' body panels and have a photo of his VIN.

To get out of my car, I stood up in my seat and walked out the passenger side.

I still think that's risky... say he hit you/scrapped your car and you take him to court and he says your parked so close, based on your photos, he couldn't get out with out hitting you, etc., etc.

So, is your existing "extensive body damage" from doing this trick in the past? :D

I installed this third brake light strobe flasher:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/strobe-controllers/brake-light-strobe-module/195/
to go with this LED replacement bulb:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1156-led-bulb-single-intensity-1-x-3-watt-high-power-led-w-reflector-lens/921/2260/
But it didn't go as planned. After installing the flasher module, the LED did not light up at all. I put the original bulb back in the socket and it flashed -- not the same pattern it was supposed to (4-short, 4-long, 1-sustained) but it did flash (4-long, 1-sustained). I'm happy with that. I kept the flasher and returned the bulb for a refund.

I bought two of these, one for each of my NB's, but I don't know how to hook them up. I don't plan on replacing the bulbs with LED bulbs, is that OK, or will it fry the module because of too much current through it?

How does it hook up? There were no directions included. There is a red and black wire in and a red wire out, what do they connect to?

Thanks,

Just finished a test drive after installing a Jackson Racing supercharger kit on my 2000 ls, it changes things.
Much more down low, I've had turbo cars before (not Miata) and the SC is wonderful in the lower-mid rpm range. I bought a used kit and almost sold it without even installing it, so glad I decided to try it.
It was a bit of a risk given my not so well equipped garage and my lack of experience, but VERY rewarding once I was done.
I loved the garage time with the car!

Thanks,

I contacted the tech at SuperBrightLED's and they said that running the stock bulb is NOT good for the strobe module. I ordered this red LED and it works perfectly now:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1156-led-bulb-single-intensity-18-smd-led-tower/163/
I butted the green and red together, before and after the module, as per the direction on the module and I "scotch-clipped" the black to black, without having to cut the car's black wire.
If your LED bulb does not light up, try pulling it out and rotating it 180 degrees and put it back in.

I got this response from the tech, Antwain Gilmore, at SuperBrightsLEDs.com:

"The wire to the bulb should be cut so that one end connects to the Red wire on the input of the module and the other end connects to the Red output of the module. The Black wire should be connected to the chassis of the vehicle for grounding. Contact us for any further questions or assistance."

The other tech there that I was on chat with online checked and said that using a regular bulb would present no problems for the unit. :dunno:

Using the stock bulb gave me a different flash pattern - 4 long and then stayed on. With my LED bulb, I get the correct pattern - 4 short, 4 long and then stays on. I got the red LED as suggested and it is much brighter than the stock bulb while pulling less current. Hopefully, it will last forever.

The wiring directions above agree with what I did. The whole set up is compact and can be removed or bypassed very easily if I ever change my mind about keeping it. Right now, it works perfectly and the cars behind me give me more distance now. I'm happy.

boomercarguy

8th November 2014, 13:23

Did you mount it right on the trunk lid next to the light?

Yes, the adhesive pad that comes with it works great. I opened the plastic case to pull out the wiring harness (sort of like a lobster tail) so that I could sort the wires. I had to cut off a few inches of the plastic case, next to the light, to make it easier to do the wiring. When finished, I used cable ties to make everything neat before positioning the module onto the inside of the trunk lid beside the light. I made sure there was enough room to pull the bulb connection out of the housing before I did this in case I ever needed to replace the bulb in the future. Then, I wrapped the "lobster tail" with a cable tie every few inches to keep it closed without re-using the electric tape.

Prepped my car for rallycross. It's already pretty crunchy so why not.

First, I got my hands on some 12 in springs for the rear and 10 in springs for the front. Surprisingly, you can compress 12 inches onto a Bilstein!

http://kylini.com/ul/rallymiata1.jpg

The final product was alright, but I made an unintended mistake! I didn't thread enough of the spring to clear the driveshaft! Sadly, this meant taking the blues apart and using my 10 in springs in back (7 in springs in the front jacked waaaaay up).

http://kylini.com/ul/rallymiata2.jpg

Because I spent so much time messing with the suspension today, I didn't have time to get some snow tires from a friend. However, I got the hard top back on, cleaned the car (heh), and put on my numbers.

http://kylini.com/ul/rallymiata3.jpg

With the snows on, this car'll be hilarious in winter! It already handles surprisingly well for not having any sway bars and being a few inches above stock height.

I spent most of the day scrubbing of the adhesive residue left behind by the vinyle wrap the PO put on my Miata. Do yourself (and maybe a future owner) a favor... if you ever decide to wrap your car, don't cheap out and get low quality vinyl. The cheap stuf leaves a lot of adhesive behind when you pull it off. As small as this car is, I figure I still have 2-3 days of scrubbing with Goof Off to get all the residue off.

While I was scrubbing, I got tired of having my broken (both of them) license plate lights taped onto the car, so I replaced them with some LED strips (6 LEDs in each strip). I mounted the strips on the edge of the trunk lid facing in, so they shine down into the trunk when it is open. Pretty well. Never had an issue with it and works wonders (now that I see it, that's my old ddx319 and I now have the dnx6160) both models are 6.1" touch screens the dnx has nav which is why I got the dnx. But you can do the full 7" if you want. I just liked the volume knob. It's easy to update and good quality. I haven't had any issues with clarity and I have the Bose speakers, but I also have two 8" subs with an amp so I needed the kenwood anyways 😅

Ha, yes, now that the nasty weather has arrived to western NY, I can work on it as opposed to driving. It's the Bossfrog Clearview from Goodwin. I don't have a hard top but they say it will fit. Haven't tested the top yet, ran out of time last night. Still have to drill through the body to make the final connections. So far everything has lined up well with the existing bolt holes. The instructions are very clear and the build quality seems great. I'm curious to see how much it affects the stiffness of the chassis, and hopefully I don't have to find out if it works for the intended purpose!
Kindly yours,

I think they're definitely a performance shock, which in reality is what I wanted to get when I bought them. The adjusting is nice though I'm riding on roughly 70-80% but I'm young haha and since the tokicos are outta production, koni's are really the only choice. Not to mention, the warranty is always nice to have on the koni's.

Over 30K (and 4 years) on them on the Scion, and still performing pretty much the same as when first installed - I'm very positively impressed with these.

Which head unit is that? Was there a plug and play connector for it or did you have to hand wire it? Did is just fit right in or did you have to add things to keep it steady?

I replaced the passenger-side fog lamp on my 2001 today. The previous one took a rock and went ka-blewy while we were on our Route 66 trip! I remember hearing the sound but didn't discover the damage for a few days. Funny thing was, the bulb continued to work for 4,000 more miles and was still working right up until I replaced it today. I'm saving the old assembly in case I ever need the bulb, it's tough little bugger! :)

BTW, the Ford part number the fog light is now just as expensive as the Mazda one. You can find 3rd party replacements for under $100 but they aren't the exact same assembly like the previous Ford part number deal. I paid $188 at my local Mazda dealer after significant club discount (list price is something like $269).

I don't really know how to answer the question... I gave the fender + wheel liner a good shaking, and the majority of that fell right out. I reached in as best I could and scraped the rest out. It's all from the bottom of the fender.

Last time I took 80 west of Cheyenne in January to go skiing, the weather was snow, snow, and more snow - and I waited over a day for 80 to open back up; 70 wasn't too far So., and the weather there didn't look much better.

Check your car's insurance policy. If you have full coverage, glass replacement is probably in your coverage, and depending on the policy, your deductible could be $0.00 to $250.00.

Check with your insurance agent to find out. As for the cost of paying cash for replacement, I would guess that it would be around $300.00 to $600.00.

I agree with pmf73, Safelite is the best in glass replacement.

I got mine replaced with Safelite glass about a 18 months ago. Since I only carry liability insurance on the car, I paid for it totally out of pocket, and the bill was just $260. I did drive the car to the shop so there was no travel involved for the installer. This was in the SF bay area too (i.e. expensive).

If I remember correctly, some states make it so you have to have a non cracked/spidered windshield is needed to pass a state inspection so it would then be covered, fully or partially, under insurance. Here in tx, I don't believe insurance will cover it but that's probably cause it isn't necessary to pass state. And as for paying 1000 for an SI windshield.. OUCH. I would've chased that guy off with a shoe haha I couldn't imagine paying that much for any windshield unless it's a Range Rover (darn things gotta be fancy and have defrosters in the front windshield.. Minimum $1,300)

It seems that the auto glass replacement business was different then. When I lived in AZ most all insurance companies had zero deductible for glass on all full coverage. If you needed a new windshield you would have to replace it to qualify for the zero deductible. I used to replace mine about every two years because living in the desert is hard on them, not from the heat but the sand and grit and rocks. Also a cracked windshield will get you pulled over. I actually went through three windshields in 18 months.

Wow! Did not realize that they are that inexpensive. The last time I paid out of pocket was in 1996 and it was close to $1000.00 from Safelite for a windshield for a '90 Civic Si.Yowsa!

Next time I would definitely get a second or third bid ...

The weather in Austin has taken a nasty turn of late. Lots of rain, mist and drizzle. So I took advantage of a dry moment today and cleaned all of my glass then applied Rain-X. Now I'm ready to drive in this nastiness for the next week.

My power windows had gotten slow so I put some to the Honda Shin-Etsu grease in the rail (no difference) and then I put lithium grease in the two channels on each side. Much, much better. For the first one I had to take off the interior door panel to find the two rails but not before consulting miata.net to discover there is a screw under the carpet at the base of the door handle. Once I knew where the rails were, the passenger side I was able to get to without taking off the interior door panel.

Along the way, I drained my battery (fan was running, interior light was on and I was running the windows up and down) so then I roll started it going down my street. I love driving a stick again.

Heck I put shin estu on the rails inside the doors themselves and they've been perfect ever since

I'm considering replacing mine for the same reason. Safelites website has a quote feature. Here's what mine will be in Rochester, NY.

Separating the black rubber blade seal from the window and peaking down you can find each rail..... if you know what you're looking for. Their are two rollers, one in each rail, and the rear one is green.

Ordered a new used interior door handle from Planet Miata this morning. Yesterday, the DS one decided to up and break in two on me. Thankfully I can still lock the car and open it from the outside.

Today, I noticed a leak on the PS...found out when I left my office after being here a couple of hours and the seat was soaked. Weather stripping was indented and not making a clean seal against the window. Tried to massage it back into shape but it wasn't happening. So I pulled it back and noticed a slit so I stuffed some foam in there to fill it out. Will have to check on it later.

On the bright side, I received the CarbonMiata seatbelt extenders last week. :)

I had mine done at no cost last spring. I got the chip in the windshield one day, next day I added coverage with no deductible. This raised my 6mo. premium by $3. Day after that I called the mobile autoglass repair shop. Day after that they came to my work and I watched them put in the new windshield from the lobby.

"Winter sucks."

Drove my '99 to work today, and it did not appreciate the 16 degree temperature and howling wind... It started up and got me home, but the battery was not enthusiastic about it.

unethical?

I still have the coverage if that makes you feel better.
I needed a product. I bought a product. I used the product I bought. :dunno:

It's entirely my fault the premium didn't go up more. My record is in good standing. :D

And to keep this thread on track, I missed driving my NB today. I am waiting for fuel injector service.

No, according to what you said, you didn't have the coverage when you had the damage, you then lied to them, hid it and filed a claim, that's unethical. Doesn't matter if you kept the coverage or not, you're using that as an excuse to make yourself feel better and justify the lying. nufsaid.

This is insurance fraud and is a textbook example as stated in the USC annotated.

I would strongly recommend removing your written confession from the Internet should anyone decide to submit a tip to the insurance company.

Perfect evidence right here. Real too, not even demonstrative.

I'm starting winter work on my 2002 this week. I Installed a RoadsterSport 3 muffler, replaced my fuel filter, and put in new Belden (NAPA) plug wires.

The muffler was really easy. I think it took about 20 minutes, most of which was wrestling with the rubber hangers getting the old one off.

The plug wires were way over due. I've been getting the occasional random misfire code. I get a couple of seconds of misfire then it's gone for weeks. My old ones were shot. The new short wire was 100 Ohms vs 2.9k Ohms on the old one. The new long wire was 300 ohms vs. 9k Ohms on the old one. I should have done this work when I did plugs 7k miles ago.

The fuel filter turned into a bit of a pain. I had the right tool for the fittings, but my tank side connection just kept on flowing fuel after I disconnected. The book said a small amount of fuel will come out and then it will stop, uhhhh right. I guess I'm a bit of a wimp, but I let it drain all the way into clean containers before I went to work on it. Being soaked in gas just doesn't appeal to me. Once it was drained, the change was super easy.

Next week, new Koni Sport shocks with FCM bump stops and a new Racking Beat front sway bar with Racking Beat end links.

Today I finished up all the sanding prep work. Thursday it goes to the paint shop ( Strata Blue Mica ). Already put on fresh tires, all calipers, rotors, pads, fluid, radiator, hoses, timing belt/ water pump, alternator, and plugs. I'll get the car back on Monday, but with the temp at 7 degrees right now, no top down weather for me.:D

Drop the top, put on a hat and scarf and drive that baby out and about.

at 74° here in SoCal, same deal. Enjoy, congratulations on your great work

Yeah, it's surprising, even in cold weather... even in light rain, I've enjoyed driving topless. I just turn up the heater, mostly from the lower outlets, and I feel very comfortable. If it's raining, just be sure to not stop very long.. as long as you're moving, it stays pretty dry.
