That is the current recommendation from Ford, regardless of age or mileage. There is nothing to stop you using a slightly thicker 10w40 if you prefer.
The change interval will vary with the engine/model of the van, but i change mine (in the Di) at least every 10k miles.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info,
Just to confirm - my transit is a 260 2l diesel.
5w30 Semi synthetic - is the correct type to get? Should it be ford branded or should I look out for any specific makes?

Many thanks AKE :)
Just reading through the posts again and it seems there is a bit of confusion if we should be using full or part synthetic,
I am not worried about spending a little more on fully but do you think this is best personally?
I have used Magnatec type oil in my car so just looked at the Magnatec 5W-30 type for van, it says it has been recommended by Ford but only available in full - will this be ok?
Finally, 4l is the standard 'tub' size. Is this enough to do an oil change on a 2l 260 transit do you know?
Kind regards,

Either full or semi synthetic is absolutely fine, and if I remember correctly you need around 6 litres for a 2.0

Thanks AKE and apologies for all the questions;
I notice lots of transit filters come bundled with a spare 'sump plug', is it always best to replace the plug? Don't think i've ever had that on another vehicle.
Just to confirm procedure:
Get engine warmed up, park van on a slight decline with engine pointing down, take out sump plug, take off oil filter and replace with new, replace plug, fill with new oil.
Anything I have missed or any tips?
Many thanks,
